Incorporating WebQuests into lessonsAlthough sometimes viewed as an outdated activity in the modern world of online learning tools, WebQuests can still serve a purpose in your lesson for a particular type of learner. For further information on the pros and cons of using WebQuests, go to my blog post. The lesson plan and learner aims sections below will also explain more about how this activity can help to achieve your intended outcomes. |
Lesson Plan |
The WebQuest itself essentially serves as a lesson plan as it comes with a set structure, first framing the activity's context, followed by details of the process, resources and expected outcomes. The WebQuest I have created in the Learner Activities section is designed to be an entire lesson. I would advise teachers to briefly talk through each step with the class ahead of starting, then allow them to follow the guidance given. The teacher's role throughout will be to circulate the classroom and monitor progress, making suggestions where necessary and encouraging participation if there are difficulties.

Learner Aims |
The aims of this WebQuest are to encourage collaboration, strengthen analytic and research skills, enable learner autonomy and develop language skills via a communicative, authentic task. The use of technology in achieving these aims is key, not only for the research itself, but also for the collation of information (via Padlet) and presentation (PowerPoint).
